Catarina Truck Rack Automation

Challenge:

With expanded gathering operations in the liquids-rich Eagle Ford shale play, Chesapeake Midstream Development planned construction of the Catarina Crude Oil Terminal to support oil and condensate transportation and storage for Webb, Dimmit, La Salle and surrounding Texas counties.

Solution:

SKW led the design and installation of automation control equipment as well as custom software programming for the truck loading terminal, including pipeline pumps, booster pumps and oil storage tanks.

Equipment fabrication, instrumentation services and control system integration focused on the terminal control building, the MCC building, truck loading bays and the Catarina oil storage facility. Critical equipment, including the terminal inlet meter skid, remote operated shutoff valves, pipeline receiver trap, emergency shutdown system and backup generator were also integrated into the automation and controls design and programming.

Outcome:

The Catarina Crude Oil Terminal is able to meet the transportation and storage needs for the area, and Chesapeake Midstream is able to monitor and optimize performance through its SCADA system and control panels.
