Electrical Studies for Mainline Compressor Stations

Challenge:

This natural gas pipeline operator has the capacity to deliver 2.8 Bcf/day to Midwest and East Coast markets.  Their mainline gas compressor stations run on a mix of reciprocating compressors and more recently installed turbines, and the operator needed to understand proper safety precautions for the energized areas of the station complex.

Areas of expertise:
Electical Studies

Solution:

SKW completed electrical studies for a dozen of the compressor station facilities. The studies analyzed engine rooms, auxiliary electrical equipment, offices, maintenance shops and generators.  Maximum fault levels were calculated and problem areas were identified.

Outcome:

Warning Stickers based on study findings advise workers of safe approach distances and levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) required in energized areas of the station complex.
